Summer School

Music Camp for Teens | August 7 – 11

Record High Summer School is 5-day immersive music camp for students ages 13 – 18. Presented by the premier music venue, Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, in collaboration with, and on location at, Arts High School in Newark, NJ, students apply for one of the two offered tracks, Contemporary Songwriting and Hip Hop – Lyric Writing and Performance. Record High faculty of music professionals as well as guest industry professionals provide valuable insight to give students the best chance at achieving success in their chosen track. The program will conclude with a performance showcase for friends and family on the final day with students and professional touring musicians.

Contemporary Songwriting

Aspiring songwriters will sharpen the skills of their craft while exploring song structure, harmony, melody, lyric writing, and (where applicable) vocal technique. This track will also provide students with the opportunity to collaborate with singers and other songwriters. They will also gain valuable insight on sound business practices including effective marketing. This Career Track does not require you to be a singer. However, a rudimentary understanding of music theory, and some piano or guitar performance abilities are helpful.

Hip Hop – Lyric Writing and Performance

Emerging Hip Hop artists will hone their skills while exploring contemporary hip-hop lyric writing, beat making and performance techniques. This track will also provide students with the opportunity to collaborate with singers and songwriters and gain valuable insight on sound business practices including effective marketing.
